What Is WRewards?
WRewards is Woolworths South Africa's loyalty programme -- now rebranded as MyDifference and merging the old WRewards and MySchool cards into one. Scan your free card at Woolworths, Country Road, Trenery, Witchery and selected WCafes for instant savings of up to 20% on thousands of marked items, plus personalised vouchers and cashback loaded to the app. The base savings are decent if you actively seek out marked products, but without effort, you'll barely notice the difference.
When Is WRewards Worth It?
Without effort: Scan your card, buy what you normally would at R3,000/month --> maybe R40--60/year in incidental savings on items that happen to be marked.
With the 3 moves: Actively shop marked items, use your vouchers, and hit your monthly goals --> realistically R1,200--R1,800/year on the same spend.
Recent changes: WRewards became MyDifference in July 2025, adding tiered rewards (Loyal, Ambassador, VIP), gamified Play and Win with guaranteed prizes, and personalised monthly goals. Old WRewards and MySchool cards stopped working on 1 April 2026 -- if you haven't migrated yet, your card no longer registers purchases, and any remaining WRewards data will be wiped on 30 June 2026. Switch to MyDifference via the Woolworths website to preserve what you can.
How It Works
Where it works: All Woolworths stores (Food, Fashion, Beauty, Home), Country Road, Trenery, Witchery, selected WCafes, NOW NOW, and woolworths.co.za including Woolies Dash deliveries.
What you earn: Instant savings of up to 20% on marked items at checkout -- no points, no waiting. Higher tiers unlock personalised vouchers, cashback via Play and Win games, and monthly bonus goals.
How you get it back: Savings apply automatically at checkout. Vouchers and cashback are loaded to the app and spent at the till or online.
What it costs: Free. Always has been.
How to sign up: Register for MyDifference on the Woolworths website -- takes two minutes. Physical cards are still available in-store. You can scan your card into SuperCards via screenshot after registration.
Member perks: Three tiers based on annual spend: Loyal (under R12,000), Ambassador (R12,000--R35,999), and VIP (R36,000+). VIP members get a R75 welcome voucher, 10% birthday discount, early access to launches, and exclusive event invites. Ambassador members unlock personalised monthly shopping goals for bonus rewards.
Good to know: For online and Woolies Dash orders, just stay logged in -- savings apply automatically. Vouchers have expiry dates (check your account regularly). Members who only use the physical card get the instant savings but miss vouchers, Play and Win, cashback, and monthly goals.
The 3 Moves That Actually Matter
1. Hunt the orange tags -- they're where the real value lives
The entire value of this programme is in the instant savings on marked products. Get into the habit of scanning shelves for the WRewards/MyDifference savings tags before you grab the standard item. Across food, clothing, beauty and homeware, there are thousands of marked products at any time. On a focused shop, you can save 10--20% on individual items -- one savvy shopper reported saving over R300 on a single grocery run by sticking to savings-tagged products.
2. Check your vouchers and goals before you shop
Open your Woolworths account before heading to the store. Personalised vouchers appear based on your shopping habits -- if you don't check, they expire unused. Ambassador and VIP members also get monthly goals (e.g. "spend R500 on food this month") that unlock bonus rewards. It takes 30 seconds and can add R50--100 per month in voucher value. Keep your card in SuperCards so you never forget to scan at checkout.
3. Don't ignore online -- savings work there too
Instant savings and vouchers apply to woolworths.co.za and Woolies Dash orders, not just in-store. Many people forget this. Log in before you order and your MyDifference savings apply automatically. You can copy your card number for a quick checkout.
Get Your Savings Out (Best to Worst)
Instant savings at checkout -- up to 20% on marked items, automatic, no action needed beyond scanning your card.
Personalised vouchers -- loaded to your account, applied at checkout. Check regularly so they don't expire.
Play and Win cashback -- loaded to your account, spendable in-store or online. Amounts vary and aren't guaranteed to be large.
There's a way to stack your Woolworths savings with a separate programme for up to 75% back on healthy food items -- see Pro Tips below.
Letting vouchers expire -- the worst outcome. Vouchers have short expiry windows. If you don't check regularly, you lose them.
Watch Out For
- Old cards stopped working on 1 April 2026. WRewards and MySchool cards no longer register purchases or earn benefits. Any remaining WRewards account data will be wiped on 30 June 2026 -- migrate to MyDifference via the Woolworths website before then to keep your history.
- Engage digitally to capture the full value. Members who only swipe a physical card get instant savings but miss vouchers, Play and Win, cashback, and monthly goals -- the majority of the programme's value lives in your MyDifference account.
- Vouchers expire. Check your account at least weekly. There's no bulk notification system that catches everything.
- The savings feel thin if you don't actively look. If you just grab what you want without checking for marked items, the effective return on your spend is negligible. This programme rewards deliberate shoppers.
When to Skip WRewards
- If you rarely shop at Woolworths. Under R500/month at Woolworths means the Loyal tier barely registers. You'd save more by shopping at a retailer with lower base prices.
- If you prefer simplicity. Checkers Xtra Savings offers up to 25% instant savings with no tiers and 17 million members. Pick n Pay Smart Shopper gives straightforward points redeemable on anything. Both are less fuss.
- If you shop Woolworths purely for quality and never check savings tags. The programme only works for people willing to glance at labels. If that's not you, the card won't change your life.
