What Is Better Rewards?
Better Rewards is Dis-Chem's free loyalty programme — flash your card at any of their 300+ pharmacies or Baby City stores and get 10% off instantly on over 10,000 products from 140+ popular brands. It replaced the old Benefit Programme in October 2025 and ditched the points system entirely. Instead of collecting points and redeeming later, you save immediately at the till. The base 10% is solid for a free programme, and it stacks higher if you use the pharmacy or pay with Capitec.
When Is Better Rewards Worth It?
Without effort: Spend R2,500/month at Dis-Chem, ~40% on qualifying brands → save roughly R1,200/year
With the 3 moves: Keep the Pharmacy Boost active and target Better Rewards brands → realistically R1,800–2,500/year
Recent changes: Dis-Chem retired its 23-year-old Benefit Programme in October 2025 and launched Better Rewards — a completely different model. Old points balances are valid until approximately April 2026, so redeem them now. The Capitec partnership brought 550,000 new customers in the first four months.
How It Works
Where it works: All Dis-Chem Pharmacies (~313 stores) and Dis-Chem Baby City (~42 stores) across South Africa, plus dischem.co.za online.
What you save: 10% off instantly on products from 140+ participating brands. Not everything in the store qualifies — look for the Better Rewards icon on shelf labels.
How you get it back: No redemption needed. The discount is applied automatically at the till when you scan your card.
What it costs: Free. Always has been.
How to sign up: At any Dis-Chem store (takes under 3 minutes), via the Dis-Chem website. Card works immediately. You can scan your card into SuperCards via screenshot after registration.
Member perks: The Pharmacy Boost gives you an extra 5% off Better Rewards brands for 30 days every time you fill a prescription or buy any over-the-counter medication. Capitec cardholders get another 5% on top.
Good to know: The discount only applies to participating Better Rewards brands, not your entire basket. For online shopping, your Better Rewards card must be registered on your dischem.co.za profile — log in before checking out. If you forget your card in-store, you miss the discount. Keep it in SuperCards so it's always one tap away.
The 3 Moves That Actually Matter
1. Buy Your Brands, Not Just Any Brands
Not everything in Dis-Chem qualifies for the 10% discount — only products from the 140+ participating brands. Before grabbing the nearest shampoo or toothpaste, check for the Better Rewards icon on the shelf label. Swapping to a qualifying brand on items you buy monthly can mean R50–100 in savings per shop without changing your routine.
2. Keep the Pharmacy Boost Permanently Active
Every time you buy anything from the Dis-Chem pharmacy counter — even a R30 box of pain tablets — you unlock an extra 5% off all Better Rewards brands for 30 days. If you pick up any pharmacy item at least once a month, the boost never lapses. That turns your base 10% into a permanent 15%, which adds up to hundreds of rands per year.
3. Check the Better Rewards Page Before Big Shops
Before stocking up on toiletries, baby products, or health essentials, check the Better Rewards section on the Dis-Chem website for the current qualifying brands. Planning a R500+ shop around these brands can save you R75–100 in a single visit. The discount stacks on top of sale prices, so buying a Better Rewards brand that's already on promotion gives you the best value.
Get Your Savings (Best to Worst)
Instant discount at the till — 10–20% off qualifying products, applied automatically when you scan your card. No points to track, no thresholds to hit.
Online shopping at dischem.co.za — same discounts apply, provided your card is linked to your profile. Useful for bulk buying.
There are ways to push your discount well beyond 20% — see the Pro Tips below.
Old Benefit Programme points — if you still have a balance from the old system, use it before approximately April 2026 or you lose it. Ask the cashier to apply your points at checkout.
Watch Out For
- Not everything qualifies. The 10% discount only applies to ~10,000 products from participating brands. Prescription medications, house brands, and many grocery items are excluded.
- Forget your card, lose the discount. Better Rewards discounts cannot be applied retroactively. No card at checkout means full price.
- Keep your card number accessible. Dis-Chem's digital channels have had reliability issues, so storing the card in SuperCards is the most reliable way to have it on hand at the till.
- Old points expire. Legacy Benefit Programme points are only valid for roughly six months after the October 2025 switchover.
When to Skip Better Rewards
- You rarely shop at Dis-Chem. If you're a Clicks loyalist, the Clicks ClubCard has a broader partner network and earns across more retailers, even if the per-transaction value is lower.
- You mostly buy prescription medication. Prescription meds generally don't qualify for Better Rewards discounts. Your medical aid or gap cover matters more here.
- You spend under R500/month at Dis-Chem. At that level, even with 10% off qualifying items, your annual savings might be under R200. Still free to join — just don't expect transformative value.
