What Is PNA COLOUR Rewards?

PNA COLOUR Rewards is the free loyalty programme from PNA, South Africa's dedicated stationery, art supplies, books, and office essentials retailer. Scan your digital membership card at any of 140+ PNA stores across South Africa and Namibia, and earn 1% cashback (calculated before VAT) on qualifying purchases. The cashback accumulates in your account and can be redeemed as credit on future PNA purchases. Honest assessment: 1% back at a specialist retailer you visit a few times a year is modest — but it costs nothing and the member-exclusive deals can add genuine value during peak spending periods like back-to-school season.

Is PNA COLOUR Rewards Worth It?

Without effort: Scan your card at the till → 1% back as PNA credit on the pre-VAT amount (R1 cashback = R1 off); discounted and promotional items don't count.
With the 3 moves: Always scan, buy back-to-school stationery from mid-November, and check member-exclusive deals before you shop → those deals can beat the base 1% on specific products.

Recent changes: PNA replaced the old physical Penny Card with the digital COLOUR Rewards app in early 2025. If you still have an old Penny Card, those points may have expired — check with your store. The programme now offers personalised deals and in-app engagement rewards on top of the base cashback.

How Does PNA COLOUR Rewards Work?

Where it works: All PNA stores — stationery, art and craft supplies, books, educational toys, office essentials. PNA only; no external partner network.

What you earn: 1% cashback on every qualifying purchase, calculated excluding VAT, discounts and promotional items. Cashback accumulates in your COLOUR Rewards account.

How you get it back: Redeem your cashback as credit in-store at any PNA. One-to-one value: R1 cashback = R1 off your purchase.

What it costs: Free. No tiers, no paid upgrades.

How to sign up: Register for COLOUR Rewards in any PNA store or online — takes under a minute. Your digital card is ready immediately — no physical card needed. Scan your card into SuperCards via screenshot after registration.

Good to know: PNA is a franchise — prices can vary slightly between stores. Whether cashback applies to online purchases at pna.co.za is unclear; the programme is designed around in-store scanning. Check your account for current cashback expiry terms before letting your balance sit too long.

How to Get the Most From PNA COLOUR Rewards

1. Always Scan — Even for Small Purchases

The cashback sounds small, but stationery purchases add up — school supplies, printer cartridges, art materials, gifts. The biggest mistake is forgetting to scan because you think the purchase is too small. Keep your card in SuperCards so it's always one tap away at the till.

2. Buy Back-to-School Stationery in November, Not January

PNA's annual Back 2 Back campaign launches mid-November with promotional pricing on school stationery. Stock is fuller and queues are shorter — though promotional items don't earn base cashback. By January, popular items sell out and you lose the timing advantage. If you have school-age children, this single move saves more than a year of cashback would.

3. Check Member-Exclusive Deals Before You Shop

COLOUR Rewards members get access to personalised discounts and limited-time promotions that non-members don't see. Before heading to PNA, check your COLOUR Rewards account to see what's available. These deals can significantly outperform the base 1% cashback on specific products. It takes 10 seconds.

How to Redeem PNA COLOUR Rewards Points

Redeem in-store as credit — R1 cashback = R1 off your next purchase. Simple, full value, no minimum reported.

PNA periodically runs competitions where redeeming cashback enters you to win prizes (R10,000+ in value) — see Pro Tips below.

Letting it expire — Cashback has an expiry period (check the app for current terms). If you forget about your balance, you lose it. Don't let it sit.

PNA COLOUR Rewards — What to Watch Out For

  • Cashback may expire. The programme's T&Cs include an expiry period. Check your account regularly and redeem before your balance lapses.
  • Franchise price variations. PNA stores are independently owned. The same item can cost different amounts at different stores — compare if you have multiple PNAs nearby.
  • Returned items lose cashback. If you return a product, the cashback earned on that purchase is deducted from your balance.
  • Campaign exclusions. Promotional campaigns typically exclude gift vouchers, airtime, ticketing, already discounted items, and bulk deals.

When to Skip PNA COLOUR Rewards

  • You rarely shop at PNA. If you visit twice a year for school stationery, your annual cashback might be R5–R10. Not worth tracking.
  • You buy stationery at grocery stores. Major grocery retailers sell school stationery during back-to-school season, and their loyalty programmes reward you across a much wider spend. If you're already earning cashback at those retailers, adding a niche stationery programme adds friction for very little return.
  • You're an online-only shopper. The programme is built around in-store scanning. If you mostly order stationery online, the rewards may not apply.
