What Is Thank U?
Thank U is Edgars' free loyalty programme — give your ID number at the till when you shop at any Edgars store and earn points on every rand you spend. Once you've accumulated enough, you redeem them for Edgars vouchers. The effective return is 1% back on everything you buy, which is decent for a fashion retailer but nothing spectacular. If you shop at Edgars regularly, it's free money you'd otherwise leave on the table.
When Is Thank U Worth It?
Without effort: R2,000/month at Edgars, just give your ID at the till each time → R240/year back in vouchers
With the 3 moves: Time purchases around double points events and claim your annual bonus points → realistically R300–400/year
Recent changes: Edgars has been downsizing stores and selling off brands. Boardmans, Legit, Style and Swagga were sold to Pepkor in November 2025 — you can no longer earn Thank U points there. The programme now effectively covers Edgars stores only (including Edgars Beauty). The partner network is a fraction of what it was under the old Edcon group.
How It Works
Where it works: Edgars stores nationwide (fashion, beauty, decor, cellular departments), including Edgars Beauty locations. In-store purchases only — no online earning.
What you earn: 10 points per R1 spent. Edgars Account (credit) holders earn 15 points per R1.
How you get it back: Redeem 10,000 points for a R10 voucher, or 50,000 points for R50. Usable at any Edgars store. 1 point = R0.001.
What it costs: Free. Always has been.
How to sign up: Walk into any Edgars store and give your ID number, mobile number and name at the till. No card needed — you're registered on the spot. You can save your membership details into SuperCards after registration.
Good to know: You cannot earn or redeem points online at edgars.co.za. Points take about 3 working days to appear. The only way to check your balance is in-store — there's no app or online portal. Gift cards, insurance products and Sunglass Hut purchases don't earn points.
The 3 Moves That Actually Matter
1. Always identify yourself at the till — no excuses
Give your SA ID number, mobile number or email at every Edgars purchase. You don't need a physical card — the system looks you up. At 1% back, a R500 shopping trip earns you R5 in vouchers for doing nothing beyond speaking a number. Keep your Thank U details in SuperCards so you never blank at the till.
2. Claim your free 8,000 bonus points every year
Update your contact details in-store once a year: 5,000 points for a working email address and 3,000 for a confirmed mobile number. That's R8 in free voucher credit for two minutes of admin. Not life-changing, but it's literally free.
3. Shop during double points events
Edgars periodically runs double points promotions on specific brands — Kelso, fragrances, beauty and house brands are common targets. That bumps your return from 1% to 2%. If you're planning a bigger purchase (winter wardrobe, birthday fragrance), check in-store signage or ask staff whether a double points event is running before you pay.
Get Your Points Out (Best → Worst)
R10 voucher (10,000 points) — lowest threshold, same rate as larger vouchers. Redeem often rather than hoarding.
R50 voucher (50,000 points) — same value per point, just requires more accumulation.
There's a way to stretch your effective return beyond 1% — see the Pro Tips below.
Letting points expire — points expire after 36 months. If you don't reach 10,000 points (R1,000 in spending) within three years, you get nothing. Redeem early.
Watch Out For
- Points expire after 36 months. If you shop infrequently, you may never accumulate enough to redeem before expiry.
- No online earning. If most of your Edgars shopping is on edgars.co.za, Thank U gives you nothing.
- No app, no online balance check. The Thank U app was shut down in 2020. The only way to check your points is by asking in-store.
- Don't confuse Thank U with Edgars Club. Edgars Club is a separate paid subscription (R49–R199/month) for lifestyle discounts. Thank U is the free points programme. They're not the same thing.
When to Skip Thank U
- You rarely shop at Edgars in-store. At 1% back with no online earning, you need at least R1,000 in store spending per year to get your first R10 voucher. Below that, it's not worth tracking.
- You prefer other fashion retailers. TFG Rewards, Woolworths WRewards and Clicks ClubCard offer broader partner networks, app-based coupons, and online earning. If you shop across multiple chains, those programmes deliver more value.
- You mainly buy beauty online. Without online points earning, Edgars Beauty purchases on the website earn you nothing through Thank U.
