What Is the Boxer Rewards Club?

The Boxer Rewards Club is the free loyalty programme for South Africa's largest discount supermarket chain. Swipe your card at any Boxer Superstores, Boxer Build, or Boxer Liquor outlet and earn B Rewards on promoted products — each worth R1, redeemable at the till. It's not a percentage-back-on-everything programme like Smart Shopper. Your rewards depend entirely on which promoted products end up in your basket, making the return unpredictable but occasionally generous on specific items.

When Is the Boxer Rewards Club Worth It?

Without effort: Swipe on every shop, buy whatever you normally would. If your basket happens to include promoted products, you'll earn a few B Rewards. Realistically R20–R50/month for a regular Boxer shopper spending R2,500/month — but this varies wildly week to week.

With the 3 moves: Check the catalogue for promoted products before you shop, swipe on weekends for competition entries, and redeem before year-end. Realistically R400–R800/year if you're a frequent Boxer shopper who actively buys promoted items.

Recent changes: The programme only launched in September 2024, so it's still finding its feet. Boxer listed on the JSE in November 2024 and is expanding rapidly — 60 new stores planned for 2026. Weekend competitions (Friday B Rewards, Saturday airtime, Sunday free shopping draws) ran through December 2025; check the Boxer website for current campaigns.

How It Works

Where it works: All Boxer formats — Superstores, Boxer Build, Boxer Liquor, and Boxer Punch. Over 575 stores across South Africa and Eswatini. Not valid at Pick n Pay, despite the corporate relationship.

What you earn: B Rewards on advertised/promoted products only. Not a flat rate per rand spent. 1 B Reward = R1. If nothing in your basket is on promotion, you earn zero B Rewards — but your swipe still enters you into weekend competitions.

How you get it back: Redeem at the till. B Rewards are deducted from your total like cash.

What it costs: Free. No paid tier.

How to sign up: Collect a physical card from a Boxer Rewards Club ambassador in-store. Register via USSD, WhatsApp, or the Boxer website. Takes a few minutes. You can scan your card into SuperCards via screenshot after registration.

Member perks: Weekend competition entries (swipe Friday for B Rewards draws, Saturday for airtime, Sunday for free shopping). Birthday offer. VIP access to promotions.

Good to know: B Rewards expire on 1 January each year — anything unspent is gone. Individual rewards may also have shorter expiry dates, shown on your till slip and in your account. There's no retroactive credit if you forget to swipe.

The 3 Moves That Actually Matter

1. Swipe every single time — even if you think your basket doesn't qualify

B Rewards are earned on advertised products, but you don't need to pre-check which items qualify. The system automatically detects qualifying items in your basket when you swipe. If nothing qualifies, you lose nothing — you still enter the weekend competitions. Keep your card in SuperCards so it's always one tap away and you never walk out without swiping.

2. Check the catalogue before you shop

Boxer publishes weekly catalogues with promoted products. If you're flexible about brands, checking which items carry B Rewards before you shop can meaningfully increase your return. The catalogues are available on the Boxer website, or at the entrance of every store. A R750 shop focused on promoted products has returned R50 in B Rewards in past promotions — that's nearly 7%.

3. Redeem before December — or lose everything

B Rewards expire on 1 January with no exceptions. Don't sit on them hoping for a better deal. There's only one redemption method (pay at the till), so use them on a regular shop in November or December. Check your balance in the Boxer website and plan a larger shop around it.

Get Your Rewards Out (Best → Worst)

Pay at the till — 1 B Reward = R1 off your total. Simple, immediate, full value. The only redemption method available.

Weekend competition winnings — Free B Rewards, airtime, or shopping if you win. Not guaranteed, but costs nothing to enter beyond swiping your card.

Letting rewards expire — The worst "redemption." Anything unspent on 31 December vanishes on 1 January. Don't let this happen.

Watch Out For

  • Year-end expiry is absolute. B Rewards don't roll over. If you earn R80 in December and don't shop again before 1 January, it's gone.
  • Not every product earns rewards. Only advertised/promoted items generate B Rewards. A big grocery shop with zero promoted items earns zero rewards. This is not a cashback programme.
  • No retroactive credits. Forget to swipe? You can't add rewards after the fact. Make it a habit.
  • The programme is very new. Launched September 2024. Terms, campaigns, and benefits may change as Boxer iterates. Keep an eye on updates.

When to Skip the Boxer Rewards Club

  • You don't shop at Boxer regularly. The rewards only work at Boxer stores. If Boxer isn't your primary shop, there's nothing to earn.
  • You want predictable cashback. Smart Shopper gives 0.5% on everything at Pick n Pay. Checkers Xtra Savings gives instant discounts. Both are more predictable than Boxer's promoted-products-only model.
  • You shop mostly online. The programme is built for in-store swiping. No confirmed B Rewards on online Boxer orders.
