What Is RACQ?
RACQ is Queensland's largest membership organisation and rewards program — 1.7 million members carry their loyalty card for roadside assistance, insurance, and a solid set of everyday discounts on fuel, groceries, movies, and dining across the state. You don't earn points; you get direct savings at the checkout. This rewards card pays for itself quickly — the discounts-only Lifestyle membership costs just $5/year and pays for itself within a few fills at Caltex.
Is RACQ Worth It?
Without effort: Fill up at Caltex weekly and show your card → save ~$100/year on fuel alone
With the 3 moves: Pre-buy Woolworths eGift cards, use the fuel discount, and grab cheap cinema tickets → realistically $300–500/year saved
Recent changes: The cashback program ended in March 2025, and most eGift cards (JB Hi-Fi, Myer, Target, Kmart) were discontinued in February 2026. Only Woolworths Group eGift cards remain. The member benefits programme is narrower than it was a year ago. On the upside, the Lifestyle membership dropped from $26 to $5/year, and a new Members Lounge at Brisbane Entertainment Centre launched in early 2025.
How Does RACQ Work?
Where it works: Caltex and Puma Energy fuel stations Australia-wide, Evie EV fast-charging stations across QLD and select northern NSW sites, Repco, Event Cinemas, 300+ dining venues across QLD, Dreamworld, Sea World, Movie World, plus RACQ's own insurance and banking products.
What you save: 4c/litre off fuel at Caltex and Puma. 4% off Woolworths Supermarket eGift cards (5% off BIG W, BWS, Dan Murphy's). 5% off at Repco. ~40% off cinema eVouchers. 15% off travel insurance.
What it costs: Lifestyle membership (discounts only): $5/year. Roadside Assistance starts at $80/year (Everyday Lite) and includes all member discounts automatically.
How to sign up: Online at racq.com.au — takes a few minutes. Digital card available immediately; physical card arrives in 5–6 weeks. You can scan your card into SuperCards via screenshot after registration.
Member perks: $25 off RACQ batteries and vehicle inspections. Free RACQ Car Buying Service. Access to the RACQ Members Lounge at Brisbane Entertainment Centre. Loyalty tiers (Blue through Gold50) unlock increasing roadside and insurance discounts over decades of continuous membership.
Good to know: The Caltex fuel discount cannot be combined with supermarket shopper dockets or other fuel cards — you must choose one or the other. Woolworths eGift cards must be pre-purchased through the RACQ website before shopping; you can't get the discount at the register.
How to Get the Most From RACQ
1. Pre-Buy Woolworths eGift Cards at 4% Off
Log into My RACQ on racq.com.au, buy Woolworths eGift cards at 4% off face value, then use them for your regular grocery shop. You still earn Everyday Rewards points when paying with the card, so you're double-dipping. At $200/week in groceries, that's roughly $400/year saved for about two minutes of effort per shop. BIG W and Dan Murphy's cards are 5% off through the same portal.
2. Use the 4c/Litre Fuel Discount at Every Fill
Show your RACQ card at participating Caltex and Puma stations before paying. Works on all fuel types including diesel and LPG, up to 120 litres per transaction. At one 50-litre fill per week, that's $104/year — no coupons, no activation, just show the card. Keep your membership card in SuperCards so it's always one tap away at the bowser. Works Australia-wide, not just Queensland.
3. Buy Cinema eVouchers Before You Go
RACQ Event Cinemas eSaver tickets cost roughly $13 for adults — about 40% off the standard price. Buy them through the RACQ benefits portal before heading to the cinema. A family of four saves around $35 per visit. Not valid Thursday–Saturday evenings or public holidays, but perfect for daytime and early-week sessions.
RACQ — Savings at a Glance
Woolworths eGift cards — 4% off groceries, stacks with Everyday Rewards. Highest total dollar savings for most households.
Fuel discount — 4c/litre at Caltex and Puma, zero effort, works nationwide.
Cinema eVouchers — ~40% off, genuine savings, but restricted session times.
There's a way to get RACQ membership for free — see Pro Tips below.
Dining discounts — variable quality, some venues offer only 10% off or a complimentary side. Hit-or-miss depending on where you eat.
RACQ — What to Watch Out For
Key pros and cons to know:
- Fuel discount doesn't stack with Woolworths or Coles shopper dockets. If you have a promotional 8c or 10c docket, use that instead.
- eGift card range has shrunk dramatically. Most major retailers (JB Hi-Fi, Myer, Kmart, Target) were removed in February 2026. Only Woolworths Group cards remain.
- Membership lapses reset your loyalty tier. If you've built up to Silver or Gold over decades, a gap means starting over at Blue — and losing significant roadside and insurance discounts.
- Cinema eVouchers have blackout times. Not valid Thursday–Saturday after 5pm or on public holidays. Plan for weekday or daytime sessions.
When to Skip RACQ
- You don't live in Queensland. Most dining, entertainment, and theme park discounts are QLD-only. The fuel and Repco discounts work nationally, but interstate auto clubs (NRMA, RACV, RAA) offer similar benefits in their states.
- You already use cashback portals heavily. If you're getting 3–5% back through cashback portals on everyday purchases, RACQ's 4% eGift card discount is a lateral move, not an upgrade.
- You spend under $50/week at Woolworths and rarely fill up at Caltex. At that level, your annual savings barely cover the $5 membership.
