What Is BP Rewards?
BP Rewards is BP Australia's free loyalty program — scan your card at any of ~1,400 BP stations nationwide and earn points on fuel and in-store purchases. You choose whether to collect BP Points (redeemable for dollars off) or Qantas Points (for flights). The base return is modest at around 0.5% on regular fuel, but the free Qantas Frequent Flyer membership (normally $99.50) and periodic fuel discount offers make it worth more than the headline number.
Is BP Rewards Worth It?
Without effort: Fill up 100L/month of regular fuel, scan your card each time → ~$12/year back
With the 3 moves: Activate fuel discount offers, pick the right points currency, collect free coffees → realistically $40–70/year in combined value
Recent changes: The carsales partnership (6c/L off) ended in December 2025. AGL energy customers still get 4c/L off fuel through BP Rewards Unlocked. You can now use Qantas Points at the register via a new Reward Code feature — but the value is terrible (see Watch Out For).
How Does BP Rewards Work?
Where it works: ~1,400 BP service stations across Australia, including Wild Bean Cafe locations.
What you earn: 2 points per litre on BP Ultimate 98, 1 point per litre on all other fuels, 1 point per $1 on eligible shop items, and points on EV charging at participating BP Pulse sites. Same rate whether you choose BP Points or Qantas Points.
How you get it back: 500 BP Points = $5 off at the register. That's 1 cent per point. Or convert 1,000 points into a $10 David Jones eGift Card at the same rate.
What it costs: Free. Always has been.
How to sign up: Register on bprewards.com.au — takes under 2 minutes. Digital card is instant. Physical cards also available in-store. You can scan your card into SuperCards via screenshot after registration.
Member perks: Every 5th barista-made coffee at Wild Bean Cafe is free (any size, any type). Joining also unlocks free Qantas Frequent Flyer membership, normally $99.50 — one of the few remaining free pathways into the QFF program.
Good to know: You must scan your card before payment — no scan, no points. Points take up to 7 days to credit. Gift cards, tobacco, and lottery purchases don't earn points.
How to Get the Most From BP Rewards
1. Activate Fuel Discount Offers Before Every Fill
Check the BP Rewards website for active offers before each fill-up. BP regularly runs 4–8c/L fuel discounts that need one-tap activation. Miss it and you miss the savings — they don't apply retroactively. On a 60L fill, 6c/L saves you $3.60 in one go, compared to the 60 cents you'd earn from base points alone. The 8c/L combo offer (buy two qualifying shop items with fuel) is ongoing and stacks with your normal points earning.
2. Pick the Right Points Currency
If you fly Qantas, earn Qantas Points — they trickle into your balance with every fill and are worth 2–5+ cents each when redeemed for flights. If you just want money off fuel, earn BP Points instead — 1 BP Point = 1 cent when redeemed, nearly double the value of using Qantas Points at the pump (only 0.53 cents each). You can switch between them anytime in your account settings, and BP Points convert to Qantas Points at 1:1 if you change your mind later.
3. Collect Your Free Coffees
Scan your card at Wild Bean Cafe and your 5th barista-made drink is free — any size, hot or cold, with up to three free extras. At $5–6 per coffee, that's roughly $50–60/year if you buy one a week at BP. Keep your card in SuperCards so you never forget to scan.
How to Redeem BP Rewards Points
Dollars off at BP — 1 cent per point, no fuss. 500 points = $5 off your next fuel or shop purchase. Instant at the register.
David Jones eGift Card — same 1 cent per point rate. Good if you shop at David Jones, but locks you into one retailer.
If you're earning Qantas Points, there's a way to get several times more value per point — see Pro Tips below.
Qantas Points spent at BP — 1,900 points for $10 off = 0.53 cents per point. One of the worst redemptions in the entire Qantas ecosystem. Avoid.
BP Rewards — What to Watch Out For
- Accidental Qantas Points burn. The BP terminal may prompt a "Reward Code" screen that redeems your Qantas Points at the terrible 0.53c rate. Always press Cancel when prompted, or disable "Use Qantas Points" in your BP Rewards account settings.
- Offers expire if not activated. Every fuel discount requires manual activation before you pay. No activation, no discount.
- Points expire after 24 months of inactivity. Any earn or redeem transaction resets the clock. Qantas Points have a shorter 18-month inactivity window under their own program rules.
- BP fuel prices tend to run higher. A 6c/L discount means nothing if the station next door is 15c/L cheaper. Check fuel prices before defaulting to BP.
When to Skip BP Rewards
- If a cheaper station is nearby. A 10–15c/L price difference at an independent or Costco saves far more than BP Rewards earns. Use a fuel price comparison app before committing.
- If you spend under $100/month on fuel at BP. Your annual return would be under $6. Free to hold, but not worth going out of your way.
- If you're deep in the Woolworths or Coles ecosystem. Woolworths shoppers getting 4c/L off at Ampol, or Coles shoppers with Shell fuel vouchers, may get better per-litre savings from their grocery-linked programs.
