What Is Kroger Plus Card?
Kroger Plus Card is the free loyalty program for Kroger, the largest supermarket chain in the US — covering 2,700+ stores across 35 states under banners like Ralphs, Fred Meyer, Harris Teeter, King Soopers, and Fry's. Scan your card and earn fuel points that translate to discounts at Kroger Fuel Centers and participating Shell stations. The base return is a solid 1% back as fuel savings, and with a few smart habits that number climbs to 3–5% on grocery spend you'd do anyway.
When Is Kroger Plus Card Worth It?

Recent changes: US Bank stopped accepting new applications for the Kroger Rewards Mastercard around 11 May 2026 — existing cardholders are unaffected but the card is effectively in limbo until a successor issuer is announced. The card's $0.25–$0.55/gallon fuel discount perk was discontinued for all cardholders on 31 January 2026. Kroger introduced Rewards Cash (points redeemable for grocery discounts) in select markets — not available everywhere yet. Boost membership prices increased in April 2025 ($69/year Essential, $99/year Premium). Fuel point expiration was tightened to the end of the month after earned.
How It Works
Where it works: All Kroger-family stores (Kroger, Ralphs, Fred Meyer, Harris Teeter, King Soopers, Fry's, Smith's, Dillons, QFC, Mariano's, and more). Fuel points work at Kroger Fuel Centers and participating Shell stations.
What you earn: 1 fuel point per $1 spent on groceries. 2 fuel points per $1 on third-party gift cards. 25 points per prescription.
How you get it back: 100 fuel points = 10 cents off per gallon, up to 35 gallons per fill-up (max 1,000 points = $1.00/gallon off). You also get 3 cents/gallon off just for scanning your card, no points needed.
What it costs: Free. A paid Boost tier exists ($69–99/year) for free delivery and 2x fuel points, but the free card is the core program.
How to sign up: Create a free account on the Kroger website in under 2 minutes. Digital card works immediately. Physical card available at any customer service desk. You can scan your card into SuperCards via screenshot after registration.
Member perks: Weekly member-exclusive pricing on dozens of items. Digital Deals with meaningful discounts ($5 off $50 type promotions). No birthday reward.
Good to know: Points expire at the end of the month after they're earned — that's aggressive. Spend January points by February 28 or lose them. Online pickup and delivery orders earn points automatically when you're logged in. Points usually post same day in-store, 1–3 days for online orders. Fuel purchases at Kroger gas stations do not earn fuel points.
The 3 Moves That Actually Matter
1. Clip Every Digital Coupon Before You Shop
Open the Kroger website, go to digital coupons, and clip everything relevant. You can have up to 150 active at once. They auto-apply at checkout — no fumbling at the register. Values range from $0.50 to $3.00 per item, and during "Mega Events" (every 6–8 weeks), buying 5+ qualifying items saves $1 each instantly. These coupons also stack with manufacturer paper coupons — one of each per item. Zero effort once clipped, and it turns a 1% base return into something meaningfully better.
2. Use Points at the Pump Before They Expire
This sounds obvious, but the monthly expiration catches people constantly. Your points from January vanish February 28 — no exceptions, no rollover. Set a reminder to fill up before the end of each month. The difference matters: 600 points on a 15-gallon fill saves $9. On a 35-gallon fill (two cars, gas cans), it's $21. Keep your Kroger Plus Card in SuperCards so you never show up at the pump without it.
3. Do the Weekly Feedback Survey — 50 Free Points
Complete the customer survey at kroger.com/feedback once per week. It takes 2–3 minutes and earns 50 fuel points every time, no purchase minimum. That's 200 free points/month — worth $2–7 depending on your fill-up size. Over a year, that's $24–84 in fuel savings for almost no work.
Get Your Points Out (Best → Worst)
Fuel discount on a large fill-up — 100 points from $100 spend = up to $3.50 off (35 gallons). Effective 3.5% return. The more gallons, the more value.
Fuel discount on a regular fill-up — Same points, smaller tank. 15 gallons at 10 cents off = $1.50. Still a clean 1.5% return.
Rewards Cash — 100 points = $1 off groceries. Straight 1% back. Useful if you don't drive, but only available in select markets for now.

Letting points expire — The real trap. Monthly expiration means unused points just disappear. Don't sit on them.
Watch Out For
- Monthly point expiration is unforgiving. Points earned in January expire February 28. There's no activity-based reset. Fill up before month's end or lose them.
- Fuel purchases don't earn fuel points. Filling up at a Kroger gas station earns you nothing toward next month's discount. Only grocery and merchandise spending counts.
- Not all gift cards qualify for bonus points. Kroger-family store gift cards, variable-load Visa/Mastercard/Amex cards, and Green Dot prepaid cards are excluded from the 2x (and 4x promo) fuel point bonus.
- Boost membership is non-refundable after 30 days. If you sign up for the annual plan and change your mind, you're locked in.
When to Skip Kroger Plus Card
- You don't drive and Rewards Cash isn't in your market. Without fuel redemption, there's currently no standard way to use your points at most Kroger locations. The program loses its core value.
- You spend under $200/month at Kroger. Your monthly fuel savings would be under $2. Not worth thinking about.
- A competitor is significantly cheaper in your area. If everyday low prices at another grocer save you more than Kroger's loyalty savings add back, the card math doesn't work — loyalty points can't close a 10% price gap.
