Tesco Clubcard

What Is Tesco Clubcard?

Tesco Clubcard is the UK's largest supermarket loyalty programme -- scan your free card at any Tesco store and earn 1 point per £1 spent, redeemable as vouchers for groceries or doubled in value with 100+ Reward Partners. But the real draw is Clubcard Prices: exclusive member discounts on around 8,000 products that often knock 20-50% off individual items. The points themselves return a modest 1%, but combined with Clubcard Prices and smart voucher use, a regular Tesco shopper can realistically save £100-250 per year.

When Is Tesco Clubcard Worth It?

Without effort: Spend £300/month at Tesco, just scan your card --> 3,600 points/year = £36 in vouchers + Clubcard Prices savings of roughly £60-120/year

With the 3 moves: Use Reward Partners for 2x voucher value and activate personalised coupons --> realistically £150-250/year in total savings

Recent changes: Reward Partners were cut from 3x to 2x value in 2023 (though select restaurants still offer 3x). Warner Hotels and National Express are leaving the partner list in spring 2026. Clubcard Pay+ is closing in April 2026. On the upside, easyJet Holidays joined as a Reward Partner in 2025, and Tesco is rolling out personalised "Your Clubcard Prices" offers to Clubcard members.

How It Works

Where it works: All Tesco stores (Express, Metro, Extra, superstores), Tesco online grocery, Tesco petrol stations, and Esso stations with a Tesco Express.

What you earn: 1 point per £1 at Tesco. 1 point per £2 on fuel at Tesco stations. 1 point per £3 on fuel at Esso.

How you get it back: Spend vouchers at Tesco (1 point = 1p) or exchange with Reward Partners for 2x the value (1 point = 2p). Some restaurants offer 3x.

What it costs: Free. Optional Clubcard Plus upgrade at £7.99/month (10% off two in-store shops per month, capped at £40 total saving).

How to sign up: Register on the Tesco website -- takes two minutes. Digital card works immediately; physical card arrives within 10 days. You can scan your card into SuperCards via screenshot after registration.

Member perks: Clubcard Prices are the headline benefit -- around 8,000 products at lower prices, available instantly when you scan your card. This alone is worth more than the points for most shoppers.

Good to know: Points accumulate quarterly and convert to vouchers in February, May, August, and November. Vouchers expire after 2 years -- and expired vouchers cannot be reissued. If you forget to scan, you can add points at a customer service desk within 14 days with your receipt. Keep your Clubcard in SuperCards so it's always one tap away.

The 3 Moves That Actually Matter

1. Always scan for Clubcard Prices -- that's where the real money is

The points (1% back) are a nice extra, but Clubcard Prices are the main event. Scanning your card unlocks discounts on thousands of products -- often £1-3 off per item, far outstripping the few pence in points. If you shop at Tesco without scanning, you're paying a premium for no reason. Check the Tesco website for the current Clubcard Price products before you shop.

2. Exchange vouchers for Reward Partners -- never spend them at face value

Using a £5 voucher to pay for Tesco groceries gets you exactly £5. Exchanging it with a Reward Partner gets you £10 -- or £15 at select restaurants. That's double or triple the value for the same points. Partners include restaurants, days out, travel, cinema, and Disney+. Even if you don't need anything right now, save your vouchers for when you do.

3. Activate personalised coupons

Check the Coupons section on the Tesco website regularly. Tesco sends personalised bonus-point coupons and instant discounts based on your shopping habits. You need marketing preferences switched on to receive them. Activate every relevant coupon -- they apply automatically at checkout, and there's no downside to having them active. Tesco also runs periodic "Clubcard Challenges" that can earn up to 5,000 bonus points (£50-100) over a few weeks.

Get Your Points Out (Best to Worst)

Reward Partners at 3x value -- select restaurants (Pizza Express, Zizzi, ASK Italian, Bella Italia, Prezzo, and others) give you £15 for every £5 in vouchers.

Reward Partners at 2x value -- 100+ partners including travel, days out, Disney+, and cinema. £5 in vouchers = £10 with partners.

Spend at Tesco -- 1 point = 1p at the till or online. Fine if you need groceries now, but you're leaving value on the table.

There's a simple trick to stop your vouchers from expiring without spending them -- see Pro Tips below.

Letting vouchers expire -- millions of pounds in vouchers go to waste every quarter. Set a reminder.

Watch Out For

  • Vouchers expire after 2 years. Check your balance before each quarterly deadline (end of February, May, August, November). Once expired, they're gone.
  • Forgetting to scan costs you twice -- you lose both the points and the Clubcard Prices discount.
  • Clubcard Plus only saves money if you spend £80+/month in-store. The 10% discount doesn't apply to online delivery or click-and-collect.
  • Keep a backup of your Clubcard. Tesco's digital channels have had outages that locked shoppers out at the till. A physical card, key fob, or your Clubcard stored in SuperCards keeps you covered.

When to Skip Tesco Clubcard

  • If you mainly shop at Aldi or Lidl: Their base prices are often lower than Tesco even with Clubcard Prices applied. No loyalty card changes that maths.
  • If you spend under £50/month at Tesco: Your annual points return would be under £6. The Clubcard Prices savings might still make it worthwhile for specific items, but it's marginal.
  • For online-only shopping: Cashback portals often offer higher percentage returns on Tesco online grocery orders than the 1% Clubcard base rate. Check whether they stack.
