What Is Supercheap Auto Club?

Supercheap Auto Club is the free loyalty programme for New Zealand's largest automotive parts and accessories retailer, with 41 stores nationwide. Scan your membership at checkout and you'll earn $5 store credit for every $100 spent, plus access to member-only pricing on hundreds of products. The 5% credit-back rate is solid on paper, but the 28-day expiry on earned credit means your real-world return depends entirely on how often you shop.

When Is Supercheap Auto Club Worth It?

Without effort: Spend $150/month, scan your card each time, never check for deals → ~$90/year in store credit (assuming you actually use it within 28 days each time)

With the 3 moves: Time purchases around Tuesday online deals and Club Pricing, batch spend to cross $100 thresholds efficiently → realistically $100-150/year in combined savings

Recent changes: The old Best Price Credit (automatic refund if a product dropped in price within 14 days) was retired in June 2025. It was replaced by Spend & Get, which gives $5 credit per $100 spent. Most members consider this a downgrade -- you now have to spend more to earn less certain value.

How It Works

Where it works: All 41 Supercheap Auto stores across New Zealand (Whangarei to Invercargill) and online at supercheapauto.co.nz. No partner stores -- this is a single-brand programme.

What you earn: $5 credit for every $100 spent on eligible purchases during a calendar year. That's 5% back, but as store credit only.

How you get it back: Credit appears on your account within 24 hours of hitting a $100 spend threshold. Use it as a discount on your next purchase in-store or online. There's only one redemption option: spend it at Supercheap Auto.

What it costs: Free. Used to be $5 to join; now costs nothing.

How to sign up: Register at supercheapauto.co.nz or at any store -- takes 2 minutes. You get a digital membership card immediately via email. Add it to your phone wallet, or scan it into SuperCards via screenshot so you never forget it at the counter.

Member perks: Club Pricing gives you lower prices on a rotating selection of products each month. You also get 20% off in-store fitment services (wiper blades, bulbs, batteries) and vehicle diagnostics. Receipt Free Warranty stores all your purchases digitally, so you don't need physical receipts for returns or warranty claims -- genuinely useful for auto parts.

Good to know: Your $100 spend threshold tracks cumulatively across the calendar year, not per transaction. Credit expires 28 days after it's issued -- this is tight for a store you might only visit every few months. Tyres, gift cards, delivery charges, and donations don't count toward your $100 threshold.

The 3 Moves That Actually Matter

1. Check Club Pricing Before Every Purchase

Before buying anything at full price, check the Club Prices section on the website. Hundreds of products carry member-only pricing at any given time, and the discounts are often more significant than the 5% Spend & Get credit. This takes 10 seconds and requires no extra effort beyond being logged in. Keep your card in SuperCards so you always have it ready to scan.

2. Batch Your Purchases to Hit $100 Thresholds Strategically

Since credit expires in 28 days, the ideal pattern is: spend $95 over a few visits, then cross the $100 mark right before you need something else. That way your $5 credit drops just when you have a reason to use it. Splitting your household's auto purchases across two accounts is counterproductive here -- consolidate spend on one card to reach thresholds faster.

3. Time Big Online Orders for Tuesday Evenings

Super Saver Tuesdays run from 5pm to 11:59pm NZDT every Tuesday, offering 10-20% off online purchases depending on spend level ($100+ for 10%, $200+ for 20%). This stacks with your Club membership tracking -- your discounted purchase still counts toward the $100 Spend & Get threshold. If you're planning a bigger order (batteries, tools, car care products), holding it for Tuesday evening can save you significantly more than the 5% credit alone.

Get Your Credit Back (Best → Worst)

Spend on something you already need -- credit is 1:1 value ($5 credit = $5 off). Use it on your next planned purchase at Supercheap Auto within 28 days.

Combine with Club Pricing -- use your $5 credit on a product that's already club-priced for maximum effective discount.

There are ways to push your effective savings well beyond 5% -- see Pro Tips below.

Letting credit expire -- this is the real trap. If you don't shop within 28 days, your credit vanishes. Don't buy something you don't need just to "save" $5.

Watch Out For

  • 28-day credit expiry is unforgiving. Auto parts aren't a weekly purchase for most people. If you earn $5 credit and don't need anything for a month, you lose it. Plan accordingly.
  • Spend tracking resets each calendar year. If you've spent $80 by 31 December, that progress disappears on 1 January. Time late-year purchases to cross the $100 threshold before the reset.
  • Not everything counts. Tyres, gift cards, delivery charges, and charity donations are excluded from both earning and redeeming credit.
  • No retroactive credit. If you forget to scan your card or log in, that purchase won't count toward your $100 threshold. There's no documented process to add receipts after the fact.

When to Skip Supercheap Auto Club

  • You spend under $100/year at Supercheap Auto. You'll never hit the first threshold, so Spend & Get is worthless. Club Pricing might still save you a few dollars on individual products, but it's marginal.
  • You're a frequent buyer who'd prefer cash back. The 5% return is locked to Supercheap Auto store credit with a 28-day expiry. If a cashback portal offers even 2-3% as real cash on the same products, that may be more practical.
  • Repco is more convenient for your location. Repco Rewards is also free and earns on every dollar from the first purchase. If your nearest Supercheap Auto is a long drive, the savings don't justify the petrol.
