Spotlight VIP Club

What Is Spotlight VIP Club?

Spotlight VIP Club is the free loyalty programme for New Zealand's largest fabric, craft, and homewares retailer — 22 stores nationwide. There are no points or tiers. Instead, you get VIP-exclusive coupon codes, everyday category discounts (10–30% off patterns and paper products), and periodic storewide 30% off VIP Day events. It costs nothing, and if you shop at Spotlight more than a couple of times a year, the savings add up quickly.

When Is Spotlight VIP Club Worth It?

Without effort: Just sign up and scan at checkout — $10 welcome voucher + $10 birthday voucher + everyday category discounts → $30–50/year on typical spend

With the 3 moves: Use VIP-exclusive coupon codes and time big purchases around VIP Day events → realistically $100–300+/year depending on how much you spend on fabric, craft, and homewares

Recent changes: Spotlight Group is expanding in NZ, with plans for roughly 10 new stores over the coming years. The VIP coupon format has shifted toward more email-based exclusive codes with tiered discounts ($30 off $99+, $40 off $120+, etc.).

How It Works

Where it works: All 22 Spotlight stores across New Zealand, plus spotlightstores.com/nz for online orders.

What you save: 10% off paper patterns and 20–30% off party products every day. 30–40% off made-to-measure curtains, blinds, and shutters. Plus periodic VIP-exclusive coupon codes worth 20–50% off or $30–$40 off with minimum spends.

How you get it back: Discounts applied automatically (everyday VIP pricing) or via coupon code at checkout. No points to redeem.

What it costs: Free. Always has been.

How to sign up: Online at spotlightstores.com/nz — just an email address. Takes under two minutes. You get a digital barcode in your welcome email immediately, and can request a physical card by post. Scan your card into SuperCards via screenshot after signing up so it's always ready at the register.

Member perks: $10 welcome voucher (30-day expiry). $10 birthday voucher annually. Early access to sale alerts. VIP Club competitions. VIP Day events with 30% off full-priced items storewide.

Good to know: VIP coupon codes are single-use and cannot be combined with other offers. Exclusions are extensive — sewing machines, overlockers, craft machines, electrical appliances, clearance, Hot Buys, and gift cards are excluded from virtually every VIP coupon. You must be opted into email communications to receive your welcome and birthday vouchers.

The 3 Moves That Actually Matter

1. Actually use the VIP coupon codes from your email

Spotlight sends VIP-exclusive codes regularly — typically $30 off $99+, $40 off $120+, 20% off, or occasionally 50% off a single full-priced item. These are dramatically better than the everyday VIP discounts. Check your email before any Spotlight trip and apply the best current code. If you're spending $100+ on fabric or homewares, a single code can save you $30–40 on the spot.

2. Time big purchases around VIP Day

VIP Day events offer 30% off full-priced items storewide — no exclusions on most regular stock. These happen several times a year. If you're planning a larger purchase (bulk fabric, bedding, curtains fabric), hold off until the next VIP Day. The savings on a $200 shop are $60 in one go. Spotlight announces these via email to VIP members a few days beforehand.

3. Compare prices before you buy

Spotlight's "regular" prices aren't always competitive. Community members consistently report that basic homewares and craft supplies can be cheaper at other retailers. Before committing to a big purchase, check what the same item costs elsewhere — then use your VIP discount to see if Spotlight actually comes out ahead. Where Spotlight genuinely wins is specialist fabric, patterns, and craft supplies that other retailers don't stock.

Get Your Savings (Best to Worst)

VIP Day + big coupon codes — 30–50% off full-priced items. The best value by far. Plan purchases around these events.

Everyday VIP category pricing — 10% off patterns, 20–30% off party products, 30–40% off made-to-measure. Automatic, no effort required.

There are ways to find VIP coupon codes beyond what lands in your inbox — see Pro Tips below.

"Discounted" items at inflated base prices — Multiple customers report regular prices being raised before promotions. Always compare with other retailers before assuming a VIP deal is genuinely good value.

Watch Out For

  • Coupon exclusions are extensive. Sewing machines, overlockers, craft machines, clearance, Hot Buys, gift cards, and electrical appliances are excluded from almost every VIP coupon. Don't plan a sewing machine purchase around a VIP code.
  • New accounts need a day to activate. If you sign up for VIP on the day of a promotion, coupon codes may not work until the following day. Sign up at least a day before you plan to shop.
  • Welcome and birthday vouchers require email opt-in. If you've unsubscribed from Spotlight emails, you won't receive either voucher. Birthday voucher eligibility starts 30 days after registration.
  • VIP pricing in-store can be confusing. Some shelf prices are VIP-only — you'll be charged the higher non-VIP price if you don't present your card. Keep your card in SuperCards so you never forget to scan.

When to Skip Spotlight VIP Club

  • You only buy basic craft supplies or homewares. Discount department stores often sell the same items cheaper than Spotlight even with VIP pricing.
  • You're buying sewing machines or electrical items. These are excluded from VIP coupons. Wait for standalone machine sales instead.
  • You shop at Spotlight once a year or less. Beyond the $10 welcome voucher, the programme's value comes from repeated use of rotating coupon codes and VIP Day events.
