What Is PAK'nSAVE?

PAK'nSAVE is New Zealand's cheapest supermarket chain — 59 stores nationwide, owned by the Foodstuffs co-operative, and consistently 10-15% cheaper than Woolworths or New World on a standard shop. From 15 June 2026, PAK'nSAVE joins Club+, the new Foodstuffs-wide loyalty programme — but with a catch: shopping at PAK'nSAVE earns no Club+ Dollars, though you can spend Club+ Dollars earned at New World or Four Square here. The core value proposition is still rock-bottom shelf prices for everyone, plus a fuel discount that now loads to your Club+ card at North Island stores.

When Is PAK'nSAVE Worth It?

Without effort: Shop your regular groceries at PAK'nSAVE instead of competitors and save $500-700/year based on Consumer NZ comparisons — no card, no app, no signup required.

With the 3 moves: Switch to own-brand products, use fuel vouchers strategically, and time big purchases around specials. Realistic total savings: $800-1,200/year versus shopping at Woolworths or New World.

Recent changes: Club+ launches on 15 June 2026 as Foodstuffs' new unified loyalty programme across PAK'nSAVE, New World and Four Square (signups open 18 May 2026). PAK'nSAVE shoppers earn no Club+ Dollars but can spend them, and the fuel discount now loads digitally to the Club+ card. Sticky Club (South Island) is sunsetting — existing tags keep working until 26 July 2026, after which Club+ replaces it. SHOP'nGO will require Club+ membership from 15 June 2026.

How It Works

Where it works: 59 PAK'nSAVE stores across New Zealand. No multi-retailer partnership — this is a single-brand supermarket.

What you earn: No points. You get everyday low prices for all customers and a 6c/litre fuel discount voucher on every North Island receipt (minimum $1 spend).

How you get it back: From 15 June 2026, if you scan Club+ at the checkout, your fuel discount loads directly to your Club+ card for use at participating fuel sites. If you don't scan Club+, the 6c/litre voucher still prints on your receipt as before. Either way, it's redeemed at PAK'nSAVE on-site fuel stations or at Z and participating Caltex stations (depending on your store), and expires after 30 days.

What it costs: Free. Always has been. No membership, no card, no signup for basic benefits.

How to sign up: No signup needed for grocery savings or paper fuel vouchers. From 18 May 2026, sign up for Club+ free at clubplus.co.nz to receive the digital fuel discount and access personalised Club+ Picks offers. Once registered, scan your Club+ card into SuperCards via screenshot for quick access. If you have a Christmas Club card, you can scan that into SuperCards too.

Member perks: From 15 June 2026, Club+ unlocks personalised Club+ Picks offers at PAK'nSAVE and lets you spend Club+ Dollars earned at New World or Four Square here. SHOP'nGO self-scanning service is available at South Island and lower North Island stores, and from 15 June 2026 requires a Club+ membership. Sticky Club tags keep working until 26 July 2026, after which Club+ replaces them.

Good to know: PAK'nSAVE is Click & Collect only — no home delivery ($5 service fee + $1 bag fee per order). Each store is independently owned, so specials vary between locations. Check your local store's weekly deals on the PAK'nSAVE website.

The 3 Moves That Actually Matter

1. Switch to Pams and save 30-50% on staples

PAK'nSAVE's house brand Pams covers everything from flour and pasta to cleaning products and snacks. Independent reviews consistently find Pams quality comparable to name brands at 30-50% less. For a family spending $250/week, switching staples to Pams can save $30-50/week — that's $1,500-2,500/year. This is by far the highest-impact move at PAK'nSAVE.

2. Always use your fuel voucher — and fill up on empty

Every North Island receipt with $1+ spend includes a 6c/litre fuel voucher. The discount applies to your entire fill (up to 100 litres for Fuelup vouchers, or $200 for PAK'nSAVE Fuel vouchers). Wait until your tank is nearly empty, then fill completely to maximise the per-litre saving. On a 60-litre fill, that's $3.60 saved. Shop weekly and you're looking at roughly $180/year in fuel savings alone.

3. Check weekly specials before you shop

Each PAK'nSAVE store runs its own weekly deals on the PAK'nSAVE website. Spending 60 seconds checking before you write your shopping list lets you plan meals around what's on offer. PAK'nSAVE also runs periodic deep-discount events like Meat Week, where bulk meat is priced well below competitor levels — stock your freezer when these hit.

Getting Your Savings (Best to Worst)

Fuel vouchers — 6c/litre on every shop, no signup needed. Simple, automatic, and genuinely useful if you drive.

Christmas Club — deposit money throughout the year for 3.5-6.5% bonus on contributions. Beats most savings accounts if you'll spend at PAK'nSAVE in December anyway.

There's a way to squeeze even more out of the Christmas Club timing — see Pro Tips below.

Ignoring fuel vouchers — they expire after 30 days and can't be combined. Letting them pile up unused is leaving real money on the table.

Watch Out For

  • Fuel vouchers expire in 30 days. Use them or lose them — non-Club+ shoppers get the voucher printed on the receipt with an expiry date, while Club+ scanners get the discount loaded directly to their card. One voucher per fill, can't stack with other fuel promotions.
  • PAK'nSAVE earns no Club+ Dollars, but accepts them. Shopping at PAK'nSAVE itself never adds Club+ Dollars to your balance — only New World and Four Square do. You can, however, spend Club+ Dollars earned elsewhere at any PAK'nSAVE checkout. Worth knowing before you expect a points balance to grow here.
  • Online specials can vanish overnight. PAK'nSAVE's one-day deals aren't always clearly marked as time-limited. If you see an online deal, complete the order immediately.
  • South Island fuel sites no longer offer voucher discounts. Since December 2024, the 8 South Island PAK'nSAVE fuel sites charge standard pump prices with no receipt-based discount.
  • Christmas Club funds are non-refundable and expire after 24 months of inactivity. Always register your card — an unregistered lost card means lost money.

When to Skip PAK'nSAVE

  • You need home delivery. PAK'nSAVE only does Click & Collect. Woolworths has the better online delivery infrastructure.
  • You value shopping experience over price. PAK'nSAVE is a warehouse-style, no-frills operation. If you prefer a more curated experience with premium selections, New World consistently wins on customer satisfaction.
  • You're after loyalty programme rewards. If you want points, status tiers, and personalised offers, Woolworths Everyday Rewards provides that. Just know that Consumer NZ found PAK'nSAVE's base prices beat Woolworths member specials 75% of the time.
