How Does IKEA Family Work?
Where it works: All 16 IKEA stores in Canada plus ikea.ca online.
What you earn: 1 point per $5 spent. Points are also earned for free by logging in weekly, saving favourites lists, and attending planning appointments.
How you get it back: Redeem points for discounts on purchases ($5–$50), free food (cinnamon buns, entrees, meatball bags), free delivery (up to $50 off), or assembly discounts ($40 off). All purchase discounts work out to $0.10/point — an effective 2% return.

How to sign up: On the IKEA website or app in about 2 minutes. Digital card is available immediately — no physical card exists anymore. You can scan your digital loyalty card into SuperCards via screenshot after registration.
Member perks: This is where the real value is. Member-exclusive pricing on rotating products (look for blue IKEA Family labels — savings from a few dollars to $100+ per item). Good to know: Points are earned automatically when you shop online while logged in — no click-through required. If you forget to scan in-store, contact customer service (1-866-866-4532) with your receipt to request retroactive points. Gift card purchases don't earn points. Points expire 24 months from the date earned, and reward vouchers expire 30 days after you redeem them — use them promptly.

1. Time Big Purchases Around Hej Days
Hej Days is IKEA's member-only sale — typically 15% off almost everything in-store and online, including items already on sale. On a $1,500 bedroom set, that's $225 saved in one visit. The sale happens once or twice a year (2026: late February). If you're planning a large purchase, wait for it. Check the IKEA website or app for announcements — they typically come 2–3 weeks in advance.
2. Collect Free Points Without Spending a Dollar
Log into your IKEA Family profile once a week (1 point). Save a favourites list (2 points/month). Create a gift registry (2 points/month). That's up to 8 points/month — $9.60/year — for about 30 seconds of effort per week. New members also get 5 welcome points ($0.50). If you're planning a kitchen, creating an online kitchen plan earns 20 points ($2) per month. It's not life-changing, but it's free money for clicking a button.
3. Use Swe-dish Thursdays for Double Value
Visit IKEA on a Thursday and scan your card in the Swedish Restaurant. You'll get 50% off select main dishes (meatballs, plant balls, salmon — normally $8–12). On top of that, you receive a coupon for $35 off your next purchase of $130 or more. That's a half-price meal plus a meaningful discount on your shopping trip. If you were planning an IKEA visit anyway, Thursday is the day to go.
How to Redeem IKEA Family Points
Purchase discounts — 50 points = $5 off, scaling up to 500 points = $50 off. Consistent $0.10/point across every tier. Clean and straightforward.
Food rewards — 10 points for a cinnamon bun, 100 points for a full entree. Fun to redeem, and the cinnamon bun arguably has the best dollar-per-point ratio in the whole program.
Delivery and assembly discounts — 500 points for up to $50 off delivery, 400 points for $40 off assembly. Same $0.10/point value — worth it if you need the service.

Letting reward vouchers expire — Once you redeem points for a voucher, you have 30 days to use it. Miss the window and those points are gone forever. Only redeem when you have a purchase planned.
IKEA Family — What to Watch Out For
- Points expire after 24 months from the date earned — each point has its own clock. A weekly login keeps earning fresh points but doesn't reset older ones.
- Reward vouchers expire in 30 days. Don't redeem points "just in case." Wait until you have a purchase in mind.
- No physical card exists. Keep your digital rewards card in SuperCards so it's always one tap away when you reach the checkout — forgetting to scan means missing points and member pricing.
- Accounts inactive for 2 years get deleted. All points and benefits gone. One login or purchase per year prevents this.
When to Skip IKEA Family
- You never shop at IKEA. The program only works at IKEA — there are no partner stores. If you visit once every few years, the points won't add up to anything.
- You're comparing online cashback rates. Cashback portals sometimes offer higher percentages on IKEA online purchases that can stack with your IKEA Family points. If you only shop IKEA online, check those rates first.
- You're buying one small item. The 2% return on a $15 candle is $0.30. The member pricing is where the value is, and it only applies to select items. For small incidental purchases, the program adds nothing meaningful.
